Inter-Valley Conference expanding to 14-school league

NEW PHILADELPHIA -- Beginning with next fall's high school sports season, the Inter Valley-Conference will look a lot different. That is when Claymont, Indian Valley, Tuscarawas Valley, Conotton Valley and Buckeye Trail will join the league.

Rachel Eberling earns All-OAC honor

Muskingum College sophomore Rachel Eberling has earned honorable-mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors. Eberling earned her first conference honor after making 28 appearances for the Muskies, posting a 2.96 ERA with six wins and 37 strikeouts.

Tri-County Elite beat Rubber City 73-71 in the finals of the Akron Cage Classic AAU tournament on May 14. This marked the third consecutive tournament that Tri-County Elite has prevailed as champions.

Youth turkey hunters find success

COLUMBUS -- Many young hunters found success during Ohio's 2017 youth spring wild turkey season after 1,895 birds were harvested, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Hunters age 17 and under were eligible to participate in the two-day season, April 22-23.

Moser wins Jr. High IVC titles in the long jump, 100

Adam Moser took home a pair of firsts as Malvern finished second at the 2017 Inter-Valley Conference Middle School Track and Field Championships. Moser set a meet record as he won the long jump with a leap of 18'7. He also captured the 100 with a time of 12.34.

With the battle for first place coming down to the final baseball game, Louisville pounded out 12 hits on its way to a 17-7 win over visiting Minerva. The two teams came into the contest tied for first in the league standings.

It was a great two days for the Lady Lions at the Division II District Track and Field Championships at West Holmes High School. Eleven athletes finished in the top four, and will represent Minerva at the regional meet at Athens High School.

Brandon Patterson had a pair of top three finishes at the 2017 Inter-Valley Conference Track and Field Championships. Patterson finished second in the 1600 with a time of 4:46.97, and was third in the 3200 in 10:24.7.

League's profits to fight childhood hunger

A 3-on-3 basketball league is currently forming in Minerva. The season will run May 27 through June 25, and games will be played at Brock Park, Bicentennial Park, and Minerva Elementary School. There will be two divisions - coed 18-up and coed 40-up.

Minerva's Jason Williams placed in four events at the 2017 Northeastern Buckeye Conference Track and Field Championships. Williams finished second in the 200 (23.22) and 400 (51.16); was eighth in the 100 (11.69); and was a member third-place 4x400 (3:33.

Physicals for Malvern athletes to be given May 23

Dr. Maley will be on hand at Malvern High School on May 23 to give physicals to any 2017-18 junior-high or high-school athlete. Physicals will begin at 8:30 a.m. All athletes must have a physical before any participation in a sport. The cost is $15.

Malvern ends year on a winning note

Malvern closed out the 2017 baseball season with a 4-1 win over East Canton. Jaret Majestic had his best out of his senior year, allowing just one earned run on three hits, striking out 13 for the complete-game win. Jordan Browning and Drew Hutchison each had RBI singles.

Lady Hornets fall to Shadyside

Malvern was defeated by Shadyside 13-2 in the opening round of the Division IV East sectional tournament. Danielle Casler had an RBI single, Kenzie Haidet had a base hit and scored a run, Hanna Harsha went 1-for-2, and Macy Zeiger worked the count for three walks.

Moser, Hulit win multiple events at league meet

Zoe Moser and Kelsi Hulit won two individual events in leading Malvern to a fifth-place showing at the 2017 Inter-Valley Conference Track and Field Championships. Moser, a freshman, set two meet records as she won the 100 in 12.63 and the 200 in 26.13.
