Ohio hunters are invited to enjoy early waterfowl seasons for Canada goose and teal that began on Saturday, Sept. 2, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Hunters should check regulations for changes to rules, season dates and bag limits as the 2017 fall seasons begin.
Connor Wright carded a 39 in leading Minerva to a 181-213 win over host Canton South at Spring Valley. Scotty Wilson had a 44, and Chris Lowe and Charlie Bolanz had 49s. The boys were beaten by Carrollton 168-173.
Malvern opened up the golf week with a 179-216 loss to Indian Valley. John Browning led the Hornets with a 44. Max Earl had a 53, Trent Severs had a 56, and Lane Simpson had a 63. Indian Valley's Dalton Burcher took home medalist honors with a 34.
The Lady Hornets opened up the 2017 volleyball season with a thrilling five-set win over Lisbon David Anderson. Malvern won the first two games 25-19, 25-21. Lisbon responded with two straight wins 25-16, 25-22. In the deciding five set, the Lady Hornets prevailed 15-10.

Minerva opened up the boys soccer season with a 5-4 win over Tusky Valley. The Lions scored in the third minute on a shot down the middle by Taylor Lowmiller off a pass from Zerick Banner. Two minutes later Ashton LaCaze scored off a throw in from Brendan Garrison.
