Malvern opened up the golf week with a 179-216 loss to Indian Valley.
John Browning led the Hornets with a 44. Max Earl had a 53, Trent Severs had a 56, and Lane Simpson had a 63.
Indian Valley's Dalton Burcher took home medalist honors with a 34.
"This was our best score of the year for a par-35 course," stated Head Coach Lance Gram. "Highlighting the match was Johnny Browning posting a 44, his second best 9-hole round of the season."
The boys were beaten by Garaway 160-232. Browning had a 52, Simpson and Kandel had 59s, and Severs had a 62.
Brevin Weaver led the Pirates with a 35.
"We showed our youth and inexperience at Willandale," noted Coach Gram. "With our golfers all competing there for the first time against the league's best team, we definitely had some growing pains. Seeing how Garaway commands a course was a huge learning experience for the boys."
Malvern will host Sandy Valley today (Aug. 31), and travel to Buckeye Trail on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and to Tusky Central on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
